About the name
Kai has more than one root, and families tend to choose the reading that suits them. In the Hawaiian explanation, often heard in the United States, it means "sea". In the European line, the Danish Kaj may go back to the Latin Caius, while the German Kai may be a West Frisian pet form of names such as Gerard, Cornelius or Nicholas, or of Kampe, "warrior".
